The White Nile is a very important river for South Sudan, but it is not exclusive to this country. All in all, the White Nile flows through six different countries: DRC, Rwanda, South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda.

White Nile State ( Arabic: النيل الأبيض An Nīl al Ābyaḍ) is one of the 18 wilayat or states of Sudan. It has an area of 39,701 km 2 and an estimated population of approximately 2,493,880 people (2018 est). Since 1994 Rabak is the capital of the state; other important cities include Kosti and Ed Dueim .

The Sudd ( a s -Sudd or al-Sudd, Dinka: Toc) is a vast swamp in South Sudan, formed by the White Nile 's Baḥr al-Jabal section. The Arabic word sudd is derived from sadd ( سد ), meaning "barrier" [2] or "obstruction". [3] The term "the sudd" has come to refer to any large solid floating vegetation island or mat.
